Afghan-Edinburgh Collaboration (AEC) Organises Community Blood Donation Initiative in Edinburgh.
The Afghan-Edinburgh Collaboration (AEC) proudly organised a community blood donation initiative at the Edinburgh Blood Donor Centre on 6 July 2026, encouraging members of the Afghan community to make a meaningful contribution by donating blood and helping patients in need across Scotland.
The initiative received a positive response, with around 15–20 members of the Afghan community attending the donor centre to donate blood. Their participation reflected a shared commitment to compassion, community service, and supporting Scotland’s healthcare system.
Blood donation is one of the simplest yet most powerful acts of generosity. A single donation can help save or improve the lives of several patients, including those undergoing major surgery or emergency care. Through this initiative, AEC sought to raise awareness of the continuing need for blood donors while encouraging greater participation from diverse communities.
The event also highlighted the values that unite our community kindness, solidarity, and a sense of responsibility towards others. By coming together for this important cause, participants demonstrated that giving back to the wider community is an essential part of building a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive society.
Eng. Khalid Zahin, a member of AEC, said: “Being an immigrant from Afghanistan in Scotland, I know how important it is to build bridges. Today, by donating blood, I hope to be a bridge of hope for someone in need, no matter where they are from.”
Eng. Baqir, a member of AEC, said: “He is Inspired by the timeless legacy of Imam Hussain justice, compassion, selfless sacrifice, and service to humanity. May we all be inspired to make a positive difference in the lives of others.”
AEC Chairand organiser of the initiative Amanullah Ahmadzai said: “Seeing members of the Afghan community take part in this blood donation initiative is especially meaningful to me. This initiative is our way of expressing gratitude for the kindness, generosity, and support that many individuals have shown us. By giving blood, we hope not only to help save lives but also to give something back to the community that has welcomed and supported us.”
